Thanks to digitalisation, cultural heritage can reach every household

Bratislava, 3 April 2020 – Digitalisation of cultural heritage is one of the projects the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic considers to be an example of good practice in the use of EU funds. The public in our country and in the world will appreciate its practical contribution during the period of "online life from home". Digitalised monuments and works can thus reach every household.

Six audited cultural institutions (museums, galleries, libraries - see the appendix) have so far digitalised four million objects and some of them are now freely accessible on the portal www.slovakiana.sk. National auditors see a challenge for the future in setting up long-term sustainable support for projects aimed at the digitalisation of national cultural heritage funded from the state budget. The second systemic measure should result in a legislation change. It should remove barriers to the copyrights application that today are a barrier to making monuments available online via public portals.
