The Auditors Found Shortcomings of Economic Management at the SNP (Slovak National Uprising) Museum - NKU
Bratislava, January 28, 2022 - At the SNP Museum in Banská Bystrica, national auditors have identified several cases of inefficiency and non-transparency. These included inefficient reimbursement of costs for servicing digitization equipment for one million euro, or almost 310,000 euro for an overpriced stage for the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the SNP, but also a failed 280,000 euro investment in a creative centre.
However, the identified shortcomings also arose as a consequence of interventions by the then founder - the Ministry of Culture - in powers of the museum's management. Based on the audit results, the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic (SAO) recommends to the Parliamentary Committee on Culture and the Media that its deputies should request a comprehensive report on the performed internal audits from the Ministry of Culture. At the same time, SAO emphasizes the need to improve the coordination and management of subordinate organizations within the relevant ministry.
"It is also necessary to ensure better coordination of financially demanding projects in the organizations in their founding scope to avoid unnecessary spending of funds on unrealized projects," concludes the President of the Office Karol Mitrík.
