The digitalisation of education is lagging behind, there is a lack of finance, fast internet and qualified people

Bratislava, March 19, 2020 - The national project Electronisation of the Education System in Regional Education contributed to the development of digital education, especially with new technical equipment. In 2013-2015, 75% of EUR 46 mil was used for one-time equipment of digital classrooms allocated from the EU funded project (OPIS). Today, however, most of the used equipment is after the warranty period and the state budget lacks national and EU funds for their renewal or modernisation. The local and regional self-governments, which are founders of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, are not ready for sustainable financing for IT equipment.

Although Slovakia has adopted a national concept for the informatisation of education by 2020, the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic states that this strategic document is not broken-up into specific activities. There is also lack of public funding for the implementation of the necessary steps and the Ministry of Education does not properly evaluate this concept.
