Turkish and Slovak auditors will jointly look at the effectiveness of flood control measures or the functioning of local authorities
Bratislava 5th February, 2019 – Turkey and Slovakia, despite the many differences in size, economy, culture, or country management, have found their way of understanding through their supreme audit institutions. President of the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic, Karol Mitrík, together with Turkey's Court of Auditors (TCA) Seyit Ahmet Baş who is at the same time President of EUROSAI, agreed on this in a day-long working meeting.
The meeting was held in February 5th, 2019, at the SAO SR premises in Bratislava at the invitation by the President of the SAO SR. The subject of the joint working meeting was, in particular, the SAO SR organisation and activities, the way in which the audits are being prepared and planned, or the open and transparent functioning of national authorities in the field of external control. Representatives of the Slovak office also presented to their partners the findings from an audit focused on the effectiveness of the flood protection measures. Turkish auditors found inspiration in Karol Mitrík new direction of his office, with the Slovak SAI focusing more on performance actions, evaluating key public policies with an emphasis on assessing the economy or the benefits for the citizen. Representatives of the TCA were interested in active cooperation with Slovak auditors in planning cross-sectorial audits and sharing their outcomes to model examples of good practice or measures that can help with better governance. The Presidents agreed to cooperate more closely, to participate actively in the assessment of effectiveness and efficiency in the flood protection in risk territories, or in the local self-government topic with an emphasis on use and capitalisation of the immovable assets in public ownership.
