The head of the SAO and Slovak member of the European Court of Auditors sit together for the first time in Parliament's finance committee

Bratislava, 6 September 2024 - Controlling the use of financial resources and examining the risks associated with public policies is one of the critical conditions for the efficient and effective use of resources that come directly to the public and European budgets from taxpayers, businesses and citizens. Today, the Parliament's Finance and Budget Committee brought together for the first time in this parliamentary term representatives of two independent audit offices, the President of the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) of the Slovak Republic, Ľubomír Andrassy, and the Slovak member of the European Court of Auditors (ECA), Katarína Kaszasová.

"The Slovak economy is intertwined with the European one; public budgets also contain European finances, and therefore, it is logical that the control of the legal or economic use of these resources must be a common challenge, a space for professional cooperation between Slovak and European auditors," says Ľ. Andrassy adds that the results of own or joint auditing activities should be brought together at the level of representative assemblies. One example of cooperation is the recently completed audit of the procurement of vaccines against the COVID-19 disease by the European Commission, or the participation of a member of the ECA at the Bratislava international conference related to the introduction of European rules (ESG) for the sustainable operation of private companies and, shortly, also major public corporations.
