Continuity and clear internal rules help both effective management and better governance

Bratislava, 6 December 2024 - In selecting programmes, the public broadcaster (RTVS) has strengthened the competitive environment in the last three years and reduced the risk of subjective evaluation or selection. This follows from the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) audit of the Slovak Republic in the public media, during which the national auditors focused on the effectiveness of the measures taken after the previous cross-sectional audit from 2021.

"The conclusions from this year's audit confirmed that the measures taken based on the substantive recommendations of my fellow auditors, mainly in the area of transparency of programme production, but also the economical use of public resources and the financial stability of public television and radio, have brought positive results. Three years ago, television management modified seven internal directives, and their acceptance by the new management was reflected in the audit's positive conclusions. The audit did not identify any risks that could reduce the process of transparent and efficient use of public funds," says Ľubomír Andrassy, the chairman of the auditors. He also appreciates the fact that despite the change of personnel at the head of RTVS, when Jaroslav Rezník was replaced by Ľuboš Machaj as Director General in August 2022, the continuity in the implementation of measures was maintained.
